The Power of Mobility: Crecencia’s Story

My name is Crecencia and I was born in Danlí, a village called Linaca in Honduras. I am a mother of three wonderful children and a devoted wife. My life revolves around my family, and for some time, I also served as a nursing assistant. Though circumstances led me to become a housewife, my heart remained dedicated to helping others, and I became a health guardian in a local non-governmental organization.

However, life took an unexpected turn when I suffered a meniscus fracture after slipping and injuring my foot during one of my routine walks. As someone who cherishes an active lifestyle, this injury was devastating. The private doctor I consulted with offered therapies and medications as treatment options, but I could not afford the high cost of surgery.

Feeling helpless, I reached out to One World Surgery. I sent my diagnosis and personal information via WhatsApp and in December, I was able to be evaluated for surgery by the OWS medical team.

The prospect of surgery in February filled me with excitement and anxiety. I was anxious to regain my mobility and return to my volunteer work to serve my community. Today, as I reflect on my experience months later, I am filled with gratitude and hope. To the doctors, nurses, and staff who tirelessly serve patients like me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
