From Outfitting to Grand Opening: Building Hope with Summit Orthopedics

Summit Orthopedics has stood as a steadfast partner of One World Surgery (OWS), providing unwavering support, both financial and through the dedication of their volunteers, who work tirelessly alongside our local team members. Recently, Summit played an instrumental role in outfitting our new surgical center in the Dominican Republic, as we eagerly anticipate the grand opening in 2024.

In September, the first group sorted through 13 containers filled to the brim with medical supplies and equipment. These essential materials paved the way for the setup of our clinic, pre-op/post-op rooms, four operating rooms, and the sterile processing department. They transformed an empty building into a nearly operational surgical center in just two weeks.

During their second outfitting trip, Summit volunteers not only printed labels for equipment storage areas but also brought order to the bodega, breathed new life into the surgical wing, and conducted a meticulous inventory. Additionally, their invaluable contribution extended to assisting our local team in setting up infection control procedures and auditing processes.

Beckie Hines, Summit’s Chief Operations Officer, personally joined the outfitting mission. Her presence not only highlighted Summit’s commitment but also showcased the unity between Summit and One World Surgery. She said: “It was a true pleasure to be able to serve as a Summit family alongside our OWS family. Although the trip involved a lot of hard work and long hours, it was inspirational and rewarding as we witnessed the poverty nearby and know that our efforts will provide hope and healing to those in need and will transform the lives of many. Thank you, OWS, for blessing us with this opportunity to serve!”

For our local team members, witnessing their long-awaited surgical center come to life is a surreal experience. Our team is so grateful for Summit’s hard work on our center. They showed us that success comes from doing things as a team and as a family, said Dr. Joice Morillo, Medical Director of our Dominican Republic site.

As we gear up for the grand opening in 2024, we eagerly anticipate welcoming you to our fully operational facility. The future is bright, and together, we will continue to transform lives and make the world a better place. Thank you, Summit Orthopedics, for being our beacon of hope.
