The Chain Effect

Maryury, a 35-year-old woman, found her life taking a challenging turn when she slipped and injured her right knee while getting ready for work one day in May 2022. As a devoted wife and mother of three children, she worked as a paramedic in a small fire station in her community in northern Honduras, where she was the only woman among a team of twelve. However, her injury required surgery, disrupting her work rhythm and leaving her with limited options.

Unable to afford the surgery at a local hospital, Maryury’s hope was rekindled when a fellow firefighter, who had received help from One World Surgery (OWS) before, told her about the organization. Determined to regain her ability to save lives and serve her community, she reached out to OWS and scheduled an appointment.

In January 2023, Maryury underwent successful surgery for orthopedics and meniscopathy in her right knee. Throughout her treatment at OWS, she and her husband were astounded by the exceptional facilities and the personalized attention given to patients.

“My husband and I have met very kind people at OWS who have helped us in everything we have needed. I am very happy I had my surgery performed here and I will recommend this center to people who need it.”
