One World Surgery Welcomes 3 New Directors

One World Surgery is honored to announce the addition of three remarkable individuals to our Board of Directors: Tim Prewitt, Diana Benton Schechter, and Jason Strauss.

The search for new board directors who can help us scale our nonprofit’s impact and incorporate international development and governance best practices has been a meticulous process. It is a privilege to welcome Tim, Diana, and Jason to our board, as their diverse experiences and backgrounds and passion for our mission align perfectly with our vision for One World Surgery. I am grateful for the thoughtfulness and intentionality they brought to this process to ensure they were aligned with our treasured culture.

Tim Prewitt is a distinguished international executive, CEO, and board member, with a remarkable career spanning over 25 years. Currently, he serves as the President and CEO of The Hunger Project, a global nonprofit organization committed to the sustainable eradication of world hunger. Previously, from 2012 to 2019, Tim held the position of CEO at International Development Enterprises (iDE), where he oversaw transformative market-based solutions that improved the lives of millions of people living in extreme poverty. Tim’s leadership at iDE brought about measurable impacts in areas such as agriculture, gender empowerment, nutrition, and sanitation, demonstrating his extraordinary commitment to positive global change. His extensive experience and dedication to eradicating hunger and poverty make him a highly respected leader in the field of international development.

Diana Benton Schechter is Chief Operating Officer at the END Fund, a collaborative philanthropic fund focused on ending neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), which threaten the prosperity of 1.6 billion people around the world. Diana plays a pivotal role in advancing the END Fund’s growth and impact goals by ensuring excellence in governance and operations across the organization’s global team, and aligning all financial, operational and human resources towards the END Fund’s strategic aims within and across its philanthropic investment funds. Prior, Diana led strategic planning at the Atlantic Philanthropies, the limited life foundation founded by Charles F. Feeney. Between 1982 and 2016, Atlantic committed more than $9 billion to social change around the world. With her 20 years of experience in nonprofit strategic planning, strategic communications, and philanthropic grantmaking, Diana is a recognized leader in the field and an advocate for collaborative philanthropy.

Jason Strauss is the CEO of One World Surgery’s long-time partner SCA Health. In his 15 years with SCA Health, Jason has served in multiple roles including chief operating officer and group president leading operations and growth across the country. Most recently, he served as president with accountability for revenue generating operations of 320+ ambulatory surgical centers across the country and responsibility for newly developing business lines. Under Jason’s leadership, SCA Health continues to advance its offerings as a leading national specialty care organization. Jason and his wife Amelia, due to their passion about giving back and reducing stigma, are co-founders and board members of a substance use disorder ministry serving the Birmingham, Alabama community, Unbound Grace.

Their impressive backgrounds, unwavering dedication to our nonprofit field, and diverse perspectives will undoubtedly strengthen our board. We look forward to their contributions in guiding us towards greater impact.
