Note from One World Surgery CEO
Dear friends,
After four beautiful years in the Dominican Republic, my family is returning to the US. You’ve been a part of this journey every step of the way.
I’ll miss seeing my boys climb the mango trees barefoot and shout in Spanish to their best friend Jesus de la Cruz. I’ll miss the stream of visitors—whether from abroad or from the neighborhood, dropping by the house for a visit. I’ll miss witnessing daily Darren’s kindness and patience when approached for an impromptu medical consult.
And mostly, I will miss the gift of seeing humanity at its best every day. Our Dominican teammates who are so committed to our patients and the belief of what we will achieve here. The volunteers who give of their time and talents with such enthusiasm. Our neighbors who face poverty and hunger yet match the uphill challenges with such resilience, and never hesitate to take the time to say hello and genuinely ask about family. Amidst such adversity, they care to ask of others.
And as you all know, it hasn’t been without its challenges. And when asked now, “Are you glad you did it?”
Unequivocally, yes. Having this opportunity for our family is one of the greatest gifts of our life. Thank you for being part of our journey.
Much love,
Claire, Darren, & our boys
